Basic skills competitions are essentially introductory competitions for skaters ranging in level from new beginner all the way to Preliminary Free Skate. These competitions offer a good insight into the competitive world of skating, while still encouraging a fun time for beginner skaters. Skaters do not need a private coach to participate, though some might find it helpful.
